Step 1: Plan to arrive at The Bower before sunset
Arriving before sunset ensures you have time to locate The Bower's visitor welcome area and trailhead before dark. In autumn, this means you should plan to arrive no later than 5pm.
Step 2: Drive to The Bower
The Bowerâs private access road begins at the following GPS coordinates in Whitefield, New Hampshire: 44.327057, -71.629228. (The approximate address of the campground itself is 100 Tellman Lane, Whitefield, New Hampshire 03598âbut not all mapping apps place this address in the correct location, so we recommend using our GPS coordinates in your mapping software or following the turn-by-turn directions below for the last mile.)
From Littleton Rd (NH 116), turn onto Gould Road at the T intersection. Drive 1.0 mile to the private driveway clearly marked as âTellman Laneâ on the south side of Gould Rd. Drive approximately 0.80 miles south down the Lane. You will pass the Tellman Hill Farm wooden farmstand on your left and apple orchard on your rightâkeep driving past the farmstand and orchard to reach The Bower.
Youâve reached the visitor welcome area when you see The Bower trailhead signage area on the left side of the Lane, in a small meadow clearing. Youâll see the small red Camp Jack hunting cabin uphill from the trailhead signage area, also on your left.
Step 3: Locate and park at your campsite
If you are a day visitor using the trails: Look for the "Visitor parking" signs opposite the trailhead welcome signage, in the mowed field area. Drive carefully onto the field and park with your headlights facing toward the forest and away from campsites.
If you are staying at the Apple Orchard Lookout campsite: Look for the red âJâ campsite marker on the orange pole, just before the trailhead signage area. This is the entrance to your campsite. Drive up the hill, and park anywhere in the mowed space around the cabin and fire ring.
If you are staying at the Peaceful Pines campsite: Drive slowly past the red âJâ marker and past The Bower trailhead signage area. As the Lane starts to bend left, youâll see a blue âGâ trail marker on your right at the top of a field. Drive carefully onto the field, staying between the trail markers that mark the smoothest entry path, until you reach the circular mowed area around a fire ring. A red âPâ campsite marker will confirm youâre at Peaceful Pines.
Step 4: Notify us when youâve arrived
Please let us know youâve safely arrived by sending us a message through Hipcamp or texting (603) 869-7603.
If thereâs anything we can do to make your visit more enjoyable, please message us at any time. We do our best to be responsive to visitors between the hours of 8am and 9pm.
Step 5 (optional): Pick up your rental items or refill potable water from the supplies station
To find the supplies station, continue along the Lane past the trailhead welcome areaâitâs another ~.15 mile on foot or by car. You will pass the âPrivate Residenceâ sign on your way to the farmhouse. If youâre driving to the farmhouse, you can park in the pullout area to the left of the barn. Look for the 2-story house at the end of the Lane past the barn. Thereâs a door facing the driveway containing a âWelcome to The Bowerâ sign in the window. Enter through that door, which we leave unlocked for visitors.
Inside, youâll find print copies of the visitor handbook, potable water, campfire kindling, sanitation supplies, and other outdoor gear available to borrow or rent during your stay.
Feel free to look around the supplies station and borrow or rent whatever you need. Rentals can be paid for using the reservation âExtrasâ menu in the Hipcamp app. Please return all borrowed or rented items to the large black dropboxes beside The Bower trailhead signs at the campground before you depart.
If you requested rental items using your Hipcamp app âExtrasâ menu (e.g. campfire fuel, shower kit) at least a day prior to your arrival, we will typically leave those items for you to pick up from the black dropboxes beside The Bower trailhead signage area, close to your campsite.
In some cases (such as same-day bookings), you may need to pick up your rental items at the camper supplies station at the Host farmhouse. If you canât find your rental items, send the Host a message.
